DURHAM, N.C.—Duke men’s soccer incoming player Aedan Stanley had a big week, earning a call from United States Under-20 Men’s National Team Head Coach Tab Ramos to travel to Spain for a training trip and a debut for St. Louis FC USL squad.

Stanley, a defender for St. Louis FC, is one of 25 players brought into the camp. The U-20 squad is embarking on a 12-day international training trip from March 17-28 in Spain, highlighted by two games against France in Alicante March 21 and 23. After seven days in Alicante, the team will travel to Madrid, where it will face off against Atletico Madrid’s U-21 squad.

The Columbia, Ill., native previously spent time with the U-20 team when he was tabbed by Ramos for the Summit Camp.

Prior to joining the team in Spain, Stanley earned a start for St. Louis FC in a United Soccer League contest against RGV FC Toros and was named the Man of the Match after helping St. Louis to the 1-1 draw. Stanley went the full 90 minutes and Travis Clark of Top Drawer Soccer had this to say about the future Blue Devil.

“Stanley went the full 90 prior to making the trip to Spain to join up with the U.S. U20 MNT on this week’s European training camp, putting in a solid shift in a 1-1 draw against RGVFC. Stanley attempted just 22 passes but was getting into the attack on a handful of occasions throughout the game. He demonstrated a solid positional sense and was rarely caught out of position. He made six tackles, two clearances and had one interception,” wrote Clark.

His exposure at this point in his career to the professional level is invaluable, and provided he ends up at Duke in the fall, he will be one of the top freshmen in the ACC this year.”

Stanley will join the Blue Devils in August as they look to continue to build on their outstanding 2017 season.
