ELON, N.C. – The Duke women’s cross country team fielded five competitors in the Elon Opener on Friday evening, with three of the five Blue Devils finishing within the top-20 overall.
“Today was a great day for the five women racing and wearing the Duke uniform,” said head coach Rhonda Riley. “It was a very controlled effort and a chance to work together in a group. I’m very pleased with the way the women executed their race plan.”
Duke’s top three finishers finished simultaneously, coming in at 17th, 18th, and 19th with a time of 15:15 in the 4K race. The duo of redshirt freshman Helen Williams and freshman Elizabeth Reneau each donned the singlet for the first time, while senior co-captain Olivia Gwynn joined them in the field of top-20 overall finishers.
The Blue Devils will take a brief break from competition before racing again on Sept. 14, when they take part in the Adidas XC Invitational, which will be held in Cary, N.C.
