Athletics Announces Administrative Staff Promotions

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University Vice President and Director of Athletics Kevin White announced Tuesday senior level administrative promotions within the Department of Athletics.

Art Chase, a member of the Blue Devil athletic department since 2000, was elevated to Associate Director of Athletics/External Affairs. A 1991 graduate of Guilford College, he currently oversees the department’s Sports Information, Digital Media and Blue Devil Network divisions.

Joe Manhertz, a 1996 graduate of Colgate University, has been promoted to Associate Director of Athletics/Executive Director Iron Dukes Major Gifts. Manhertz, who came to Duke in 2010, created and launched the Athletics Major Gift office with emphasis on philanthropy, managing a team of development officers while overseeing their daily development and solicitation efforts.

Robert Weiseman was elevated to the Associate Director of Athletics/Athletics Facilities, Game Operations and Championships. He directs a staff which services more than 200 varsity athletic game days, 50 campus and outside events, and, on average, four ACC or NCAA championship postseason events annually. Weiseman and his team manage day to day maintenance, renovations and new construction including the most recent master facility plan enhancements to athletics. Weiseman, who joined Duke’s staff in 2008, is a 2000 graduate of Lynchburg College.

Jack Winters joined the Duke Athletics staff in 1987 and earned a promotion to Associate Director of Athletics/Executive Director Iron Dukes Annual Fund. Under the direction of Winters, a 1988 graduate of Denison University, the Iron Duke Annual fund has grown from $6.87 million in 1999 to $15.25 million in 2017.

Rachel Curtis, who has worked with the Duke Basketball Legacy Fund since July 2001, was elevated to Assistant Director of Athletics/Athletic Facilities Branding and Director of the Legacy Fund. She is a 1996 graduate of Duke University. In her current role, Curtis leverages her design and branding expertise in supervising athletic facility planning, design, and execution for all twenty-seven of Duke’s intercollegiate sports programs.
