DURHAM, N.C. – Recent Blue Devil graduate Hunter Aitchison was selected to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 3 Women’s At-Large Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

The academic accolade comes less than a week after Aitchison graduated from Duke with a degree in neuroscience and minors in chemistry and biology. She was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second time in her career earlier this month and is a two-time College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America first team honoree pending this year’s release. She was also named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll each season and earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention recognition in 2016.

A native of Clearwater, Fla., Aitchison wrapped up her Duke career on a high note, making her third career appearance at the NCAA Championships. She garnered honorable mention All-America honors as a member of the Blue Devils’ 200 and 400 freestyle and 200-yard medley relays while helping set school records in all three events. With her efforts, Duke was 23rd in the final team standings in Austin, marking the second-highest finish in women’s program history and the highest since 2011. Aitchison also turned in three top-five finishes as a member of Blue Devil relays at the ACC Championships, helping lead the squad to a fifth-place showing at the championship meet.

Aitchison is the third student-athlete in women's program history to garner Academic All-District recognition, joining former Blue Devils Jessica Lyden (2012) and Katie Ness (2005, 2006).

Aitchison was joined by Duke's Eoin Gronningsater (men's fencing) and Virginia Elena Carta (women's golf) on the 2019 All-District 3 teams.

First team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
