DURHAM, N.C.-- After Duke University was closed on Monday due to the several inches of snow that made its way through Durham, N.C, over 60 Duke student-athletes showed up for a relaxing Tuesday afternoon at Paws 4 Exams. Izzie, Aspen, and Beau returned to campus for the semi-annual Paws 4 Exams, hosted during the fall reading period. Final exams are scheduled to begin for the university at 9 a.m., Wednesday morning. Paws 4 Exams is the final program of the semester to help student-athletes relax before the stress of exams hits. Freshman Griffin Catlett of the Duke men’s lacrosse team, entering his first round of college exams, stated, “Paws 4 Exams has brought some light to a very dark time. In a time of breaking pressure, it has been an absolute privilege to have these kind animals warm my heart."

While a number of student-athletes have dogs at home, Duke students are not allowed to have pets on campus. Paws 4 Exams offers them the opportunity to interact with and remember fond memories of their pets at home. Carly Perri, a sophomore on the swimming and diving team, stated, "It was so refreshing to have Izzie, Apsen, and Beau in the K Center for Paws 4 Exams. Cuddling and playing with them was such a positive relief from the stress of papers and exams."

Duke Athletics is thankful to Lisa Wells, and Vera and Jim Shanley for their efforts in supporting Duke student-athletes.
