Bloomington, Ind. --- The Duke rowing team won the Dale England Cup on Lake Lemon after thunderstorms forced the cancellation of day two of the Triple Dual.
On Friday, the Blue Devils were in a three-way tie with Rhode Island and Indiana with 31 points while Central Florida was in fourth with 24 points.
However, in the top and closest race of the day, Duke's crew of Caroline Kiritsy, Kathy Smithwick, Katie Burke, Emily Theys, Rory Erickson-Kulas, Tara Dalton, Laura Sciarrino, Grace Cassidy and Claire Vannelli captured first with a time of 7:04.9, three seconds ahead of their competition, to give them the victory and the Cup.
Indiana and Rhode Island finished even for second while Central Florida finished in fourth with a time a time of 7:15.3.
In the novice eight, Duke's crew of coxswain Katie Walter, Karolina Wadolowska, Alexander Enzor, Caroline Williams, Kathleen Lyons, Sophia Staal, Nicole Antoine, Rebecca Kim and Emily Hadley took second with the time of 7:59.4 while Indiana came in first with 7:35.3. Central Florida crossed the finish line at 7:52.2 to place third.
Duke's varsity four entry of coxswain Ashleigh Anne McKinney, Allison Beattie, Elizabeth Howell, Nancy McKinstry and Lissa Glynn, finished three seconds behind first place Central Florida (7:56.5) while Rhode Island (8:08.8) came in third and Indiana (8:14.5) in fourth.
In the second varsity eight, the Blue Devils finished in fourth, crossing the finish line at 7:15.3. Rhode Island finished in first at 7:16.0 while the Hoosiers and Central Florida rounded out the top three in the race.
Duke will have the week off before heading to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Dad Vail Regatta, May 11-12.
