DURHAM, N.C. – Three weeks separate the Duke baseball team from the start of the regular season as the Blue Devils took Jack Coombs Field Friday for the first official team practice of the spring.
Under the direction of second-year head coach Chris Pollard, Duke is set to open its 56-game regular season slate at home against 2013 America East champion Binghamton. In total, the Blue Devils will face 10 squads that qualified for the 2013 NCAA Regionals, four that advanced to an NCAA Super Regional and two that moved on to the College Baseball World Series.
The Blue Devils and the Bearcats square off in a three-game set Feb. 14-16. Duke welcomes Virginia to kick off the ACC portion of its schedule March 7-9. Visits from conference foes Notre Dame, North Carolina, NC State and Miami highlight an exciting 2014 home schedule.
In 2013, Pollard guided Duke to a 26-29 record, the most wins by a Blue Devil head coach in his inaugural season. Duke looks to expand upon lasts season’s success as the Blue Devils return 24-of-29 letterwinners, including seven position starters and all three members of their 2013 weekend rotation.
