NEW ORLEANS -- Sophomore Megan Clark was named National Athlete of the Week Monday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The honor follows Clark’s school record-setting performance in the pole vault Saturday at the Carolina Relays in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Clark, who currently owns the highest collegiate clearance in the nation this season, posted a mark of 14-7.25 (4.45) on her first attempt at the height. Clark’s effort shattered the previous school record of 14-2.00 (4.31), held by former Olympian Jillian Schwartz. The Fort Benning, Ga., native cleared heights of 12-9.50 (3.90), 13-5.25 (4.10) and 14-3.25 (4.35) on her first attempt after opening the competition by clearing 12-5.50 (3.80) on her third attempt. Clark earned a first-place finish at the contest on Saturday, out vaulting the second-place finisher by over two feet.

Clark’s vault on Saturday tied for the ninth-highest clearance on the all-time outdoor collegiate performers list.

Clark’s season opener in Chapel Hill mirrored the success she saw during the indoor season. Clark earned her indoor pole vault school record while placing second at the ACC Championships, clearing 14-5.25 (4.40).
