CASTAIC LAKE, Calif. – Former Duke All-American Ashley Twichell secured a spot on the U.S. open water national team roster over the weekend with a strong performance in the women’s 10K event at the U.S. Open Water National Championships.

A member of the U.S. open water team for the last three seasons, Twichell turned in a time of 1:59:29.529 to finish sixth in the field. The top six finishers in the 10K event earned selection to the national team for the 2014-15 season.

Earlier this spring, Twichell won the women’s 10K title at the inaugural Crippen Cup at the Miromar Lakes Beach and Golf Club in Fort Myers, Fla. She is also the winner of two consecutive Midmar Mile events and previously claimed a gold medal in the 10K at the World University Games last summer.

A 2011 graduate of Duke, Twichell was an All-American and ACC champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle during her collegiate career while also receiving Academic All-America recognition. She remains the program record holder in the 500 freestyle, 1,000 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle.
