DURHAM, N.C. – Duke field hockey head coach Pam Bustin and the Blue Devil staff welcomed the addition of seven incoming players to the program for the 2014 campaign. Forward Ashley Kristen comes to Duke from Vancouver, British Columbia.

Forward l Vancouver, British Columbia l Argyle Secondary School

Prior to Duke: Kristen joined the Blue Devil program in May from Vancouver, where she is a member of the Canadian Women’s Senior Development and U21 squads. She previously helped the senior development team earn a bronze medal at the 2013 Pan American Cup and owns eight international caps. The forward lettered four years at Argyle Secondary School, receiving North Shore Senior Girls All Star recognition three times.

“We are thrilled to announce another talented player to join our 2014 incoming class … Welcome, Ashley Kristen! Ashley brings to Duke a passion for learning and a passion for field hockey. She has been training and representing Canada field hockey at both the U21 level and with the Women’s Senior team. Her experience, athleticism, and team-first demeanor will complement our incoming group and help propel this class to great heights."

What is your favorite field hockey memory?
AK: Pan Am Cup in Mendoza, Argentina in 2013 - winning the silver medal and playing against some of the best players in the world.

When did you start playing field hockey?
AK: I started when I was six years old with friends for fun and I have loved it and been playing ever since.

Why did you choose Duke?
AK: Top school and top field hockey program

What are your goals for your collegiate career?
AK: To get a great education and win a national championship.

Who has had the biggest impact on your life?
AK: My parents, they support me in every aspect of my life.

Interesting fact about yourself: I was an elite gymnast for seven years.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Living and working in New York.
