The Duke Football Summer Spotlight runs every Tuesday and Thursday on GoDuke.com and features interviews with members of the reigning ACC Coastal Division Champion Blue Devils.
DURHAM -- Junior defensive tackle Carlos Wray is the focus of this week’s Duke Football Summer Spotlight. The 6-2, 290-pound native of Shelby, N.C., was a significant contributor to Duke’s defensive line rotation in 2013 and enters his junior season charted as the starting defensive tackle.
Wray amassed 31 tackles in 14 games this past season, including 16 solo stops and a half tackle for loss. He hurried the quarterback four times and posted 22 tackles over his final seven games. Wray is among the strongest players on the team, leading the team with a 550-pound squat while ranking tied for third with a 410-pound bench press. He received the program’s Sonny Falcone Iron Duke Award for the 2013 season.
Duke returns 44 letterwinners (20 offense; 21 defense; three special teams) and 17 starters (eight offense; six defense, three special teams) from a squad that went 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the ACC while reaching the Chick-fil-A Bowl a year ago.
