LANCASTER, Pa. – Duke University field hockey head coach Pam Bustin was among the first group to be inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame in nearly a decade, receiving the honor over the weekend in a ceremony at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.

Bustin was joined in the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2014 by Tracey Fuchs, Katie Kauffman Beach, Kate “Tiki” Kinnear, Jill Reeve, Nigel Traverso and the 1984 U.S. Women’s Olympic Bronze Medal Team.

Tom Harris, Pam Hixon, Steve Jennings, Linda Kreiser and Sharon Taylor were inducted as honorary members.

The USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame is designed to honor players, coaches, umpires and administrators who have enhanced the sport of field hockey through exceptional achievements. The USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame Honorary Membership is designed to honor those who have given long and exceptional service to USA Field Hockey and have made significant contributions to the sport in the U.S. or internationally.

“To be inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame is an overwhelming honor,” Bustin said. “This induction group includes some of my greatest teammates, colleagues and mentors. Each of them provide inspiration to continue to dedicate myself to the sport we love and to the youth within this organization. I am so grateful for everything USA Field Hockey has provided to and prepared me for throughout my life as an elite player and coach. I am truly blessed."

The team captain of the United States’ under-21 team from 1987-89, Bustin competed in the 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990 U.S. Olympic Festivals. In 1989, she helped the U.S. capture a silver medal at the Junior Pan American Games before being named to the U.S. National Team, playing with the national squad through the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. As a member of the 1996 Olympic team, Bustin helped Team USA earn a fifth-place finish.

Since joining the coaching ranks, Bustin has remained involved with the national team, serving as an assistant for Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  That U.S. squad earned the country’s first Olympic berth since 1996 and went on to place eighth in Beijing. Bustin currently serves as an assistant coach with the U.S. national under-19 and under-21 teams.

At the collegiate level, Bustin has revitalized the Duke program in her three seasons in Durham. She has directed the Blue Devils to a 38-26 record in that time, as well as trips to the NCAA title match in 2013 and the NCAA quarterfinals in 2011. She was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association South Region Coach of the Year last fall and the ACC Coach of the Year in 2011 during her first season at Duke. Bustin also achieved the 200th victory of her coaching career during the 2013 season in a thrilling NCAA semifinal win that lifted the Blue Devils to their first NCAA championship game appearance since 2005.

An All-America and All-Atlantic 10 honoree during her collegiate playing career at the University of Massachusetts (1985-88), Bustin was inducted in the UMass Hall of Fame in 2012.
