DURHAM, N.C. – The 2014 cross country season will officially begin tomorrow, Aug. 29, as the Duke men’s cross country team travels to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Duals. In addition to the Blue Devils and host Virginia, conference opponent Florida State is also scheduled to participate in the early-season contest.
Six Duke competitors make the trip to Virginia, with senior Kyle Moran, junior Henry Farley, sophomores Brian Benesch and Daniel Moore and freshmen Shane Kreidel and Alec Kunzweiler, all looking to open the season with a strong showing over the modified, 4-kilometer course.
Moore and Kreidel each missed the 2013 season due to injury, with Moore’s last competition coming on Sept. 28, 2012, at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. Moran, Benesch and Kunzweiler are also set to compete in the first collegiate cross country race of their respective careers, while Farley competed in one college cross country meet as an unattached runner in 2012.
Last season, the Blue Devils opened the 2013 campaign with a dual-meet victory over NC Central after placing all six competitors in the top six positions en route to a 15-point sweep at the Bull City Classic in Durham, N.C.
The men’s race is scheduled for a 5:15 p.m. start at Panorama Farms.
