DURHAM, N.C.—The Duke University men’s lacrosse team will enter the 2014 campaign picked to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference according to the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll. The announcement comes in conjunction with Inside Lacrosse’s release of its annual Face-Off Yearbook.
In addition to the preseason poll, the ACC released a Preseason All-ACC squad featuring three Blue Devils. Duke recently was tabbed the preseason No. 1 by the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook, which is available for download at Inside Lacrosse.
Newcomer Syracuse tops the list with 28 points, while Duke and North Carolina tied for second with 27 points apiece. Virginia received 16 points to take fourth, while Notre Dame and Maryland round out the poll in fifth and sixth, respectively.
All six ACC teams are ranked in the top nine in Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook Top 20 preseason poll. Duke leads the way at No. 1 followed by No. 2 Syracuse, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 6 Maryland and No. 9 Virginia.
Duke enters the 2014 season as the reigning NCAA Champion after posting a 16-5 overall record in 2013. The Blue Devils fell to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament semifinals before going on a run through the NCAA Tournament.
Fowler is the lone returning USILA first team All-American to be selected to the preseason squad, while Wolf joins 10 returning USILA All-Americans on the preseason squad. Duprey, a longstick midfielder, is considered by Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook to be Duke’s breakout player after leading Duke in caused turnovers and ranking second in ground balls.
The Blue Devils open the season Feb. 8 against Jacksonville at 1 p.m.
