CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference, and Rodney Hood and Jabari Parker were selected to the Preseason All-ACC team according to voting by media members in attendance at the ACC’s annual “Operation Basketball” in Charlotte, N.C.
The Blue Devils received 50 of 54 first-place votes, and Parker, a 6-8 freshman from Chicago, Ill., was picked as the Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year with 52 of 54 votes. Hood, who sat out the 2012-13 season after transferring from Mississippi State prior to last season, and Parker both received multiple votes ACC Preseason Player of the Year poll.
Duke was the only ACC school with multiple players voted to the Preseason All-ACC squad. ACC newcomer C.J. Fair of Syracuse was voted as the league’s ACC Preseason Player of the Year, while he, Joe Harris of Virginia and Jerian Grant of Notre Dame occupied the remaining three spots on the Preseason All-ACC team.
Duke returns two starters and 10 letterwinners from a 2012-13 squad that finished 30-6 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. Among that group are returning starting point guard Quinn Cook and shooting guard Rasheed Sulaimon, who combined to average 23.3 points and 7.2 assists last season.
Duke will kick off the 2013-14 season Friday, Oct. 19, at the annual Countdown to Craziness in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The event is slated for an 8 p.m. start. Tickets are available at www.goduke.com/tickets or by calling (919) 681-BLUE.
