DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, sat down with senior Spencer Rogers  to learn more about the Los Altos, Calif., native. Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Spencer Rogers: It’s the best of both worlds. I get to be an athlete and play a sport that I love, but I also get to be a student at a great school like this. I like the whole atmosphere of the team. It’s like being a fraternity without being in a fraternity. It’s like a whole group of brothers. It keeps me in shape. What is your favorite ‘on the field’ memory?
SR: My favorite on the field memory was definitely Jamison’s catch last year against North Carolina. The first time going to a bowl in twelve years. First time beating them in forever and getting the victory bell. That was most definitely my favorite on field memory. What is your favorite ‘off the field’ memory?
SR: When all of the kickers and all of the specialists last year got together and made a Christmas card and sent it out to everyone. We were all wearing our practice pants and Christmas sweaters, so that was great. Name your three favorite things about your sport.
SR: The camaraderie. I was a football player and a soccer player and football by far had more camaraderie. The fact that any team can win on any given day, I really like that. They always say that’s why you play the game. It really can happen. Anyone can win. Just how much of a team sport it is. You can’t have one player put the team on his back and win the game. You need a whole team effort. Name three things you would do on a day off.
SR: Sleep in, definitely. I’m generally not a morning person, so waking up at six is tough for me. I would probably, if it’s nice out, I’d head to the quarry because it’s one of my favorite places in Durham. I’d head there to take a hike or a walk. I’d probably work out. I’ve gotten to the point where I feel like a lazy bum on any given day if I don’t work out. Name three foods you can’t live without.
SR: Mashed potatoes, steaks and my mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies.
