The Duke Football Summer Spotlight runs every Tuesday and Thursday on GoDuke.com and features interviews with members of the reigning ACC Coastal Division Champion Blue Devils.
DURHAM, N.C. – Today’s Duke Football Summer Spotlight highlights redshirt junior offensive guard Lucas Patrick, who enters the 2014 season atop the depth chart at left guard.
Patrick, a 6-4, 305-pound native of Brentwood, Tenn., will step in to fill the starting role of Dave Harding, a three-year starter, team captain and All-ACC choice last season. Patrick spelled Harding at left guard throughout the 2013 campaign and took over at right tackle in Duke’s 52-48 loss to No. 21 Texas A&M in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31. Against the Aggies, Patrick helped the Blue Devils compile 661 yards of total offense, including 234 rushing yards.
Patrick was a highly-touted lineman coming out of Brentwood High School, charted as a top-25 offensive guard by ESPN.com. He suffered a fractured left ankle as a redshirt freshman in 2012 but has bounced back to play in 19 consecutive games.
Patrick is one of 43 letterwinners returning to Duke in 2014. The Blue Devils open the season on August 30 against Elon at Wallace Wade Stadium. Tickets are available at http://www.goduke.com/footballtix or by calling (919) 681-BLUE.
