Prior to Duke: A three-time All-America and all-state honoree ... one of the top distance freestylers in Illinois ... four-time state qualifier, making the cut in the 200 and 500 free as well as in the 200 and 400 free relays as a senior ... placed 10th in the state in both the 200 and 500 free while helping his squad's 400 free relay take third and the 200 free relay finish fourth ... garnered High School All-America and all-state honors for his relay performances ... finished fourth in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free at the state meet as a junior while also taking fifth in the 500 free his sophomore season ... tabbed all-conference each of his four years ... captain of his team as a senior ... five-time Academic Honor Roll selection ... member of Student Government.

Personal: Born Kevin Schey Butz on Jan. 17, 1994 in Downers Grove, Ill. ... son of Richard and Karen Butz ... has two brothers, Jeremy and Jonathan ... brother, Jeremy, is currently the captain of the men's water polo club team at Boston University ... brother, Jonathan, swam one season at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. (2004-05).
