DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, sat down with senior Spencer Pecha to learn more about the Gillette, Wyo., native. Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Spencer Pecha: Having the K Center to study in, for sure. Also, having a really tight knit, close group of friends on the team and getting to enjoy the Duke Forest every day. What is your favorite competition-related memory?
SP: Duke Invite track meet last spring. It was the 5k and it was the last race of the night around 9 o’clock. It was a pretty stacked field. All of our healthy guys were running and a lot of the UNC top runners. It was a really good 5k setup. It was perfect weather and it just went really awesome. Our whole team who wasn’t running were perched on the side of the stadium and just going nuts throughout the whole race and it was just really cool to run really well. That was my [personal record] in the 5k and just having everyone there going crazy. What is your favorite memory away from competition?
SP: I guess this isn’t one particular moment, but every single fall, during fall break, we usually go to Wrightsville Beach and just hang out. That’s always been a really positive memory. Name three of your favorite restaurants in Durham.
SP: Lilly’s Pizza downtown, Q-Shack and I’m a big fan of when my parents come and can pay for my dinner going to Top of the Hill in Chapel Hill. Name three foods that you can’t live without.
SP: Peanut butter, for sure, Cliff bars and probably bananas. Name three places you would travel to if you could.
SP: I’ve always wanted to go to Thailand for some reason. Patagonia, for sure. Patagonia would actually probably be my first choice. Maybe somewhere really remote in Alaska.
