INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee announced Saturday that Duke graduate student Juliet Bottorff secured an individual bid to the NCAA National Championship. Bottorff placed fourth at the Southeast Regional Championship meet Friday, clocking a time of 20:08.7.

Bottorff returns to the national championship for the fourth time in her collegiate career. Last season, Bottorff helped the Blue Devils to a seventh-place finish, placing 27th as an individual for All-America honors. During the 2011 season, Bottorff crossed the line in 60th overall, and during her freshman year, she placed 59th.

A product of Newark, Del., Bottorff posted impressive performances in her final cross country season with Duke. Bottorff opened the campaign with two consecutive first-place finishes, setting a course record at the 5,000-meter WakeMed Soccer Park in a personal-best time of 16:28.9. Bottorff captured the individual title two weeks later at the Notre Dame Invitational.  Bottorff opened postseason competition by earning an ACC Championship individual title, the first for a Blue Devil in eight years.

Bottorff has accumulated a myriad of accolades throughout her four-year career as a Blue Devil, including All-America honors in 2012, as well as All-Southeast Region and All-ACC honors in each of her four years. In 2013, Bottorff was named the National Performer of the Week and twice received All-ACC Performer of the Week recognition.

The NCAA National Championship meet, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, takes place at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind., and begins at 12 p.m. with the men’s race. The women’s race will follow at 1:15 p.m.
