DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Phil Fairleigh to learn more about the Cary, Ill., native.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Phil Fairleigh: One is definitely getting asked at every other dinner when we have meets whether we’re on the basketball team. At a towering 5’8 I obviously look like I’m on the basketball team. Obviously getting to wear the uniform and getting to represent the University. The guys that are here and the different personalities and diversity of guys you get at a place like Duke. It’s different than high school. It has a different feel to it and I think it’s really cool to have a lot of guys working hard.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘in competition’ memory?
PF: Last year in the ACC 3k indoors when we had the team on our back going into the 3k. We really put it all out there and brought it home for the guys.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘out of competition’ memory?
PF: Probably all of the late nights playing Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey ’98 with the boys.
GoDuke.com: Name three foods you can’t live without.
PF: Anything dairy related, eggs and steak.
GoDuke.com: Name three pet peeves.
PF: Definitely arrogance, and I guess this goes hand in hand with that, but people who are condescending. That’s definitely a pet peeve. I guess people who are too up-tight and aren’t enjoying themselves.
GoDuke.com: Name three places you would travel if you could.
PF: Australia, Indonesia and South Africa.
