DURHAM, N.C. -- Six members of the Duke cross country team, including four from the men’s team and two from the women’s team, received All-ACC academic honors, as announced by the conference office Friday morning. For a student-athlete to be eligible, the individual must earn at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintain a 3.00 cumulative grade point average during the individual’s academic career. The all-academic team, consisting of 62 student-athletes, included 24 All-ACC performers and eight All-Americans.

The Duke men ranked third among their conference counterparts for the most student-athletes named to the All-ACC academic team this season with four. Notre Dame led the conference with six student-athletes named to the league’s all-academic team, followed by Syracuse with five.

Seniors Brian Atkinson and Christian Britto, graduate student Mike Moverman and junior Shaun Thompson all received recognition for their academic and athletic success over the 2013 season. The honor is the third of Atkinson’s career, while Britto was named to the All-ACC academic team for the second time in his career. Friday’s announcement marks the first time Moverman and Thompson were named to the team.

Graduate student Juliet Bottorff and freshman Haley Meier’s academic and athletic prowess was also recognized by the conference Friday morning, marking the fourth time in her career that Bottorff earned the honor. Meier was just one of two freshmen to be named to the all-academic team.

In addition to the conference recognizing Bottorff’s academic excellence, the Newark, Del., native also received a United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honor for placing among the top-15 finishers at the Southeast Region Championship and maintaining a 3.25 grade point average.
