DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off the program's third NCAA Championships appearance in the past four years, Duke University’s men’s cross country head coach Norm Ogilvie announced the program’s 2013 schedule Friday, May 17. The season will kick off with the second annual Bull City Classic, a home dual meet with N.C. Central that is held in conjunction with the Duke vs. NCCU football game.

"We're really looking forward to the 2013 season and we're hoping to return to the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in the last five years,” Ogilvie said. “We have a solid core of returning veterans as well as a strong group of incoming freshmen."

After facing the Eagles in a dual meet, the Blue Devils will travel to Greenville, S.C., for the Furman Cross Country Classic on Sept. 14. Duke will then travel to Charlottesville, Va., two weeks later to face an early season challenge at the Panorama Farms Invitational, which will serve as a preview of the course for the NCAA Southeast Region Championships Nov. 15. Last season, rising junior Shaun Thompson led the way for the Blue Devils in 18th place, clocking a personal-best time of 24:39.4 on the 8K course.

Duke will have a chance to compete on the same course that will serve as the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships when the squad travels to the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 19. The national championship will also be held at the same course Nov. 23.

The 2013 ACC Championships will be hosted by Wake Forest University in Kernersville, N.C., Nov. 1. Last season, the Blue Devil men posted a fifth-place finish in the event, with Mike Moverman earning All-ACC accolades in a ninth-place showing.

"Our schedule allows us to preview the courses of two of the biggest meets,” Ogilvie said.

Duke returns a nucleus of veteran runners for 2013, including Moverman, Thompson, all-region performer Domenick DeMatteo and rising seniors Brian Atkinson and Christian Britto. The program will also be bolstered by a strong incoming class.
