GREENSBORO, N.C. - Five Duke University women's cross country athletes and four men's have been named to the 2009 All-ACC Academic Cross Country Teams as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Freshmen Juliet Bottorff and Madeline Morgan, sophomore Mary Carleton Johnston, junior Emily Schwitzer and senior Kate Van Buskirk were named to the women's team, while sophomore James Kostelnik and senior James Osborne joined juniors Joshua Lund and Bo Waggoner on the men's side.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during their academic career.

Bottorff, Morgan, Johnston, Van Buskirk and Kostelnik are making their first appearance on the all-academic squad, while the honors marks the second of Lund's career and the third for Schwitzer, Lund and Waggoner.

On the men's side, Waggoner turned in a stellar season for Duke, earning All-ACC and All-Southeast Region accolades. Osborne, Kostelnik and Lund were all crucial components to a Duke team that made its first NCAA appearance since 2001.

For the women, freshman Bottorff, a native of Newark, Del., completed a standout rookie campaign with the Blue Devils, collecting All-ACC, All-Southeast Region and 2009 ACC Rookie of the Year honors. Van Buskirk was also an All-ACC and All-Southeast Region honoree this past season and narrowly missed All-America accolades at the national championship meet, finishing in 52nd place. Teammates Johnston and Morgan were both key contributors on the Duke team that finished eighth overall at the NCAA Championship, while Schwitzer garnered ACC Performer of the Week honors after taking first place at the James Madison Invitational.
