DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 13, in Louisville, Ky., for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22. The University of Louisville will host the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park.
The 17th-ranked Duke women look to defend their 2009 Southeast Regional title against three other nationally ranked opponents – No. 12 Virginia, No. 21 North Carolina and No. 29 N.C. State. In the last five years the Blue Devils have won two Southeast Regional titles, 2005 and 2009.
The women will toe the line for the 6K race at 10 a.m. (EST). Competing for the Blue Devils will be Juliet Bottorff, Mary Carleton Johnston, Kristina Krasich, Madeline Morgan, Emily Schwitzer, Carly Seymour, Esther Vermeer and Sophia Ziemian.
The 23rd-ranked Duke men are looking to improve at the Southeast Regional this year after they finished fourth in 2009 and earned a berth to the NCAA Championships. The men will face five other nationally ranked opponents – No. 16 N.C. State, No. 18 North Carolina, No. 19 William & Mary, No. 20 Louisville and No. 21 Virginia – when they look for back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championships.
The Blue Devil men will start the 10K race at 11:15 a.m. (EST). Competing for Duke at the regional will be Josh Brewer, Andrew Brodeur, James Kostelnik, Josh Lund, Ryan McDermott, Clint McKelvey, Cory Nanni and Bo Waggoner.
