DURHAM, N.C. - Six Duke student-athletes were honored by the ACC with the league's Top 6 for Service Award, an honor presented annually to six student-athletes from each ACC institution who demonstrate dedication to community service and outreach programs.

Recipients from Duke included Jeffrey Faris (football), Monica Gorny (women's tennis), Jessica Lyden (swimming and diving), Amanda Truelove (women's cross country/track and field), Christopher Tweed-Kent (men's soccer) and Daniel Tweed-Kent (men's soccer).

For the past two years, Faris visited the Ronald McDonald House of Durham on a consistent basis and established a great relationship with the Ronald McDonald Community. On his own, he visited families on numerous visits, whether the visit included cooking, face painting, playing board games, tossing the football, signing posters, or taking pictures, he always boosted the spirits of the families and brought them hope. Not only did Faris visit on his own, but he also involved his teammates and encouraged them to get involved as well.

Gorny has done a lot for the women's tennis program off the court.  She has been the key organizer for many Kids Day events, racket giveaways to underprivileged kids, soup kitchen events, and much more.  In the words of head women's tennis coach Jamie Ashworth, "Honestly, she gives more of herself to others than she gives to herself."

Lyden has served as the Co-President of the Swimming with the Blue Devils Program since 2008. Swimming with the Blue Devils is a community outreach program that provides free swimming clinics to underprivileged elementary school children in the water. Lyden organized the varsity swimmers and divers as volunteers, and together they teach the children in Durham how to swim and be safe in the water.

Christopher Tweed-Kent is the Co-President of ChangeEducate, a program focused on raising awareness of poverty and empowering students to make a difference.  He also volunteers and plays a leadership role in Engineering World Health, Habitat for Humanity, Touching Tiny Lives Foundation, and Un Buen Comienzo.

Chris' brother, Daniel, is also extremely dedicated to the community and making a positive impact.  He volunteers and plays a lead role in ChangeEducate, Engineering World Health, and Un Buen Comienzo.  Dan co-founded and orchestrated a 1,000 Mile Relay raising $60,000 for Touching Tiny Lives Foundation.

Truelove participated in numerous community service events including multiple Read With the Blue Devils visits, Oxford Housing Host, Urban Ministries Soup Kitchen, the Cary Fun Day event, and much more. She also played a crucial role in recruiting fellow teammates for multiple community service events.
