DURHAM, N.C. - Following a weekend of successful outings by the Duke men's and women's cross country programs, both squads climbed up the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings Monday.

The Blue Devil women, previously ranked fifth in the Southeast Region, moved up to the top spot in the latest regional poll. The four-spot jump comes on the heels of an impressive showing at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational Friday in Madison, Wis., where the squad claimed a seventh-place finish among an elite field of schools. Senior Juliet Bottorff led the group with a top-10 performance, breaking the 20-minute mark for the first time in her collegiate career at 19:55 for 6K. Duke edged 15 nationally-ranked teams and finished ahead of four Atlantic Coast Conference opponents - Boston College, NC State, North Carolina and Virginia.

In addition, another group of Blue Devils claimed the team title Friday at the Queens Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. Senior Ashley Brasovan paced the group with a fifth-place showing, shaving nearly a minute off of her previous 5K personal best to post a time of 17:54.1.

The men's cross country team also moved up in the Southeast Region poll this week after earning a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet Saturday in Louisville, Ky. Five Blue Devils recorded new 8K personal bests in the effort, led by senior Mike Moverman, who took 39th overall at23:58.0. As a team, Duke finished in front of four nationally-ranked teams - No. 9 Tulsa, No. 12 Villanova, No. 20 Georgetown and No. 23 William & Mary, boosting the squad to No. 2 in the latest regional rankings.

Both the men's and women's teams compete next at the 2012 ACC Championships, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 on the Tech Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Va.
