DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s women’s cross country team extended their win-streak against N.C. Central to five on Saturday with a 16-39 victory over the Eagles. The dual-meet marked the second running of the Bull City Classic.

Fielding five runners, the Blue Devils took five of the first six places. Although enthusiastic about the results of the meet, head women’s cross country coach Kevin Jermyn is looking forward to fielding a full team in the upcoming weeks.

“It was a fun opening meet to our season. We are excited to begin racing more regularly in September.”

Beginning the race in Wallace Wade Stadium, the competitors rounded the track before stepping onto the Al Buehler trail. The four-kilometer course concluded on the Sally Meyerhoff Fitness Loop.

Junior Abby Farley earned her first overall victory of her collegiate career, covering the distance in a time of 15:08. Recent addition to the women’s cross country team, freshman Grace Chang competed in her first collegiate competition and earned a second-place finish with a time of 15:16. Senior Dana Morin rounded out the top three, running a time of 15:31. Junior Colleen Schmidt crossed the line in a time of 15:40, and freshman Gina Daniel closed out the scoring for the Blue Devils, finishing sixth, in a time of 16:47.

Entering the season ranked fourth in the nation, the Blue Devils will begin full-team competition Friday, Sept. 20 at the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary N.C.
