GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a first-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday, Oct. 4, graduate student Juliet Bottorff was named ACC Performer of the Week for the second time this season. The announcement comes one day after Bottorff received a United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Athlete of the Week honorable mention.

The field of competitors at Notre Dame included a number of nationally ranked opponents, including No. 2 Florida State. Bottorff ran 16:43.8 over 5,000 meters to earn a nine-second victory over second-place finisher and 2012 NCAA cross country All-American Colleen Quigley. A product of Newark, Del., Bottorff averaged just over 5:20 per mile pace, en route to her individual victory. Bottorff was just one of two runners to finish under the 17-minute mark.

Bottorff’s performance at the Notre Dame Invitational comes two weeks after a record-setting run at the Adidas XC Challenge, where Bottorff covered the WakeMed Soccer Campus cross country course in 16:28.9. The Blue Devils placed first overall at the meet, defeating ACC opponents NC State and North Carolina.

The ACC Performer of the Week accolade marks the third time the graduate student received the honor in her collegiate career.

The Duke women’s cross country team return to action Friday, Oct. 11 at the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
