NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the 2013 NCAA Division I Cross Country All-America team following Saturday’s NCAA Championship. The top-40 finishers in each race received the honor.
Graduate student Juliet Bottorff placed 21st overall Saturday to collect the second cross country All-America honor of her collegiate career and her sixth All-America accolade as a Blue Devil. Bottorff became just the fourth member of Duke’s cross country team to earn consecutive cross country All-America plaudits and the first since 2007. Bottorff’s 21st-place finish marked the highest of her four appearances at the national championship, improving on her 27th-place finish last year. Bottorff advanced through the field at the 2013 national championship, moving up 23 places throughout the race.
Bottorff’s All-America honor capped off a sensational cross country season for the Blue Devil. The two-time 2013 ACC Performer of the Week and National Athlete of the Week captured the conference title at the ACC Championship, leading to her fourth All-ACC honor. Prior to the national championship, the Newark, Del., native garnered All-Southeast honors, also the fourth of her career, after a fourth-place finish at the regional championship in Charlottesville, Va.
