No. 9 Duke Concludes Road Swing Wednesday at Davidson
Ninth-ranked Duke (9-4, 2-3 ACC) concludes a three-game road swing Wednesday, Apr. 17 with a trip to Davidson at 6 p.m. in Davidson, N.C. … The Blue Devils are 7-1 this spring against non-conference foes following a 12-4 road loss to No. 4 Northwestern Friday, Apr. 12 … The Wildcats enter the matchup on a seven-game win streak and own a ledger of 9-5 after topping Coastal Carolina, 18-8, on Apr. 14.

Davidson Series History
Wednesday’s contest marks the 11th all-time meeting between Duke and Davidson with the Blue Devils undefeated in the series at 10-0 ... The two teams will face off for the first time since 2010 ... Duke has defeated the Wildcats by a double-digit margin in each of the past four meetings.

Last Time We Met
The two teams last met in Durham Apr. 4, 2010 with Duke routing the Wildcats by a score of 19-6 ... Twelve different Blue Devils scored in the victory, led by 2010 graduate Lindsay Gilbride’s six-point performance (4g, 2a) ... 2012 graduate Kat Thomas also turned in a hat trick as Duke dominated nearly every statistical category ... Duke was held to its lowest scoring output of the season in a 12-4 loss to No. 4 Northwestern Apr. 12 in Evanston, Ill. … The Wildcats had nine different players record a point while goalkeeper Bridget Bianco and the Northwestern defense limited Duke to just four second-half scores on 14 shots … Senior attacker Makenzie Hommel got the Blue Devils on the board five minutes into the second period and sophomores Erin Tenneson and Taylor Trimble and freshman Maddy Acton also broke through for scores … Sophomore defender Gabby Moise registered three caused turnovers and freshman netminder Kelsey Duryea posted six saves in the loss.

In the Month of April
Duke has played 115 games in April in program history ... The Blue Devils are 68-47 all-time during the month ... The squad is 0-2 in the month this year following last Friday’s loss to Northwestern.

vs. Unranked Opponents
The Blue Devils are 104-12 all-time when facing unranked teams with a 6-1 ledger against unranked foes this season … Prior to suffering a 10-9 loss to unranked Boston College Apr. 6, Duke had not lost to an unranked opponent since falling 14-13 in overtime to Towson on March 25, 1997 for a streak of 95 consecutive wins.

On the Road Again
Duke is 3-3 on the road this season with wins over Georgetown (March 9), Jacksonville (March 13) and Virginia (March 23) and losses to Maryland (Feb. 24), Boston College (Apr. 6) and Northwestern (Apr. 12) ... The program holds an all-time record of 86-51 when playing away from home.

Duryea Maturing Quickly in the Cage
Freshman Kelsey Duryea has been solid in the net since making her first appearance in the second half against Maryland on Feb. 24 ... Duryea has started all eight contests since then, averaging 9.89 saves per game to rank second in the nation ... The Beverly, Mass., native ranks third in the country in save percentage at .524 and paces the ACC in saves per game and save percentage ... Duryea recorded a season-high 15 saves against North Carolina on March 28.

Blue Devils in the National Landscape
In the April 15 edition of the NCAA’s Division I team statistics, Duke was tied for 23rd nationally in scoring offense with an average of 12.69 goals scored per game ... The Blue Devils also rank among the top 20 teams in the country in scoring margin (20th, 3.69).

Devilish on Defense
The Blue Devils’ defense ranks third in the ACC and is tied for 22nd nationally, allowing opponents 9.00 goals per game ... Duke has limited opponents to single-digit scoring six times this season, including in a three-game span against Jacksonville (March 13), Dartmouth (March 17) and Virginia (March 23) ... The team collected the second shutout in program history and first since the 1998 season in a 23-0 victory over Presbyterian (Feb. 10) ... Sophomore defender Gabby Moise ranks second in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (1.46) while junior Taylor Virden ranks fifth (1.15) and first in ground balls per game (2.00).

Sophomore Taylor Trimble has registered a point in a career-best 12 straight contests entering the midweek contest with Davidson ... Senior Makenzie Hommel has scored at least one point in eight consecutive contests. 

Virden Quick on the Draw
Through 13 games, Duke leads its opponents in draw controls by a 160-148 margin ... Junior defender Taylor Virden leads the squad with 39 draw controls this spring for an average of 3.00 per game, which ranks her fifth in the ACC ... The Ellicott City, Md., native won a career-best six draws earlier this season against Vanderbilt (March 2), and has registered three or more draws in seven games overall ... Virden is now ninth on Duke’s all-time list for career draw controls with 107 in three seasons.

Scheduling the Best
Duke’s 2013 slate currently features six teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll ... The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season against then-No. 4 Maryland on Feb. 24 ... The Terrapins moved up to the top spot in the following week’s IWLCA poll ... Duke has notched wins against No. 11 Georgetown (March 9), No. 13 Dartmouth (March 17) and No. 9 Virginia (March 23).

Rookies Make Immediate Impact
Six Blue Devil freshmen have seen the field so far this season with Kelci Smesko and Kelsey Duryea entering the starting lineup ... Smesko and classmate Maddy Acton each collected their first collegiate goals in the season opener against Virginia Tech (Feb. 8) ... Smesko has started every contest at attack and has tallied 26 points on 16 goals and 10 assists, with the 10 helpers ranking her second on the squad ... Acton has played in every game, recording 13 points (11g, 2a) ... Duryea made her first appearance between the pipes in the second half against Maryland and has started the eight games since then ... Duryea ranks second in the country with an average of 9.89 saves per game and is third nationally with a .524 save percentage ... Attack Duo Moving Up Career Lists
Senior Makenzie Hommel and sophomore Kerrin Maurer have both started the 2013 season in strong fashion ... Hommel has registered a team-high 34 goals to go with seven assists for a total of 41 points, while Maurer owns 25 goals and leads the team in assists (21) and points (46) ... Hommel surpassed the 100-point mark for her career with a two-goal performance against Boston College (Apr. 6) ... Maurer needs just five more points to reach the 100-point barrier and is also approaching the 50-assist milestone with 45 in just her second season.
