Prior to Duke: A product of Summit, N.J., Humphrey garnered All-America honors from US Lacrosse as a senior after tallying 54 goals, nine assists, 54 draw controls, 36 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers this past spring. She was a second team all-league selection her junior year and posted career totals of 87 goals, 11 assists, 84 draw controls, 66 ground balls and 43 caused turnovers. Humphrey also was a two-time member of the US Lacrosse Academic All-American squad during her prep career.

When did you start playing lacrosse?
SH: I started playing lacrosse in 4th grade in my town with the Summit Lacrosse Club. I began to really like lacrosse and take it seriously in 8th grade after making the 8th grade select team. I joined STEPS that summer and made varsity the following spring as a freshman. Since then I’ve done camps, clinics, tournaments and teams to improve my game.

Why did you choose Duke?
SH: I chose Duke because not only are the academics and athletics unbelievable, but because I couldn’t imagine my college self going anywhere else. My gut told me Duke.

What is your favorite lacrosse memory?
SH: After three years of losing to Chatham in the sectional final, the 2013 season we finally beat them, advancing to the Group 2 final (which we also won!).

What are your goals for your collegiate career?
SH: In college I want to do my part as a team player, whatever that may be, to win. I hope I can contribute on and off the field as an advocate and motivator for the lacrosse program.

Who has had the biggest impact on your life and why?
SH: My mom has impacted me in more ways than I can count. Despite how well or how poorly I play, she is always there for me. She’s taught me that in life success will come as long as I am my own biggest cheerleader and anything worth having is worth working for.

Quick Hitters:
Favorite athlete: Mia Hamm and Alex Morgan
Hobbies: Go for runs, hang out with my family and friends, cook/bake
Favorite movie: Bridesmaids
Favorite TV show: Grey’s Anatomy, Nashville, Lost
Favorite book: The Help
Favorite musician: The Cab, Vampire Weekend
If you were to play another sport, what would it be? Soccer
Best advice you’ve received: “Do what you love.”
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In 10 years I hope to be doing something I love every day, though I’m not sure exactly what that will be.

To be a part of the Duke women’s lacrosse program is … an honor and a privilege.
