Scouting the Orange
Syracuse is 9-1 overall and 2-1 in ACC play entering Saturday’s conference contest ... Ranked third in the latest IWLCA poll, the Orange are coming off of an 11-7 victory over then-No. 7 Northwestern last weekend in the Carrier Dome ... The team’s only loss on the season was a 12-10 setback to Maryland March 10 ... Kayla Treanor leads the attack with 53 points (32g, 21a) and paced the ACC in points per game (5.30) heading into the week ... Treanor also ranks top-20 nationally in goals per game (3.20) ...  Kailah Kempney has totaled 46 wins at the draw to rank third in the conference (4.60) ... Alyssa Constantino and Kelsey Richardson have split time in goal for Syracuse, combining for a 7.80 goals against average and a .409 save percentage ... As a team, the Orange are second in the ACC in points (236), scoring offense (16.00 gpg), scoring defense (7.80 gpg) and caused turnovers (9.50).

Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke (7-3, 2-1 ACC) earned its second ACC win of the season last Saturday against then-No. 14 Virginia ... Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer guides the offense with 31 goals and 19 assists while junior Taylor Trimble is second on the team with 25 points (19g, 6a) ... Returning All-American defender Taylor Virden leads the way in draw controls (38) and caused turnovers (14) ... Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea, a second team All-America selection last spring, owns a 9.14 goals against average and a .479 save percentage in the net ... Duke’s balanced attack is outscoring opponents by a 149-90 margin ... The squad ranked sixth nationally in total points (218) and ninth in scoring offense (14.90 gpg) entering the week. 

Last Time Out
A late six-goal scoring run propelled Duke past Virginia, 16-11, last Saturday in conference action at Koskinen Stadium ... The Blue Devils (7-3, 2-1 ACC) prevailed in a contest that featured eight ties, six lead changes and 19 second-half goals ... Junior Kerrin Maurer and senior Sydney Peterson logged three goals and three assists each for a combined 12 points ... Junior Taylor Trimble and sophomore Kelci Smesko also recorded hat tricks in the win ... Sophomore Kelsey Duryea posted nine saves in the net for Duke and matched a career-high with five ground balls ... Senior defender Taylor Virden eclipsed the 100 ground ball mark for her career and matched a career-best with six draw controls.

Scheduling the Best
Duke’s 2014 slate currently features eight teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll ... The Blue Devils began a tough stretch in late February, falling short against top-five foes Northwestern (Feb. 22) and Maryland (March 1) and suffering a one-goal setback to No. 14 Georgetown (March 5) ... Duke picked up a key ACC win last weekend against then-No. 14 Virginia.

The squad went 5-5 against ranked opponents in 2013 ... Duke is 1-3 against ranked foes this season following last weekend’s 16-11 victory over then-No. 14 Virginia.

Maurer Earns WomensLax.com Honors
Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer was selected the WomensLax.com Player of the Week following a six-point performance last Saturday in Duke’s 16-11 victory over ACC opponent Virginia ... Maurer totaled three goals and three assists to collect her fifth hat trick of the season and her sixth multiple assist game ... Two of her markers came during a 6-0 Blue Devil scoring run that propelled the home squad past the visiting Cavaliers in the final 10 minutes ... She also corralled a career-high five draw controls. 

Trio Tabbed Midseason All-America
Senior defender Taylor Virden, junior attacker Kerrin Maurer and sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea were named to Inside Lacrosse’s midseason All-America lists March 25 ... Virden appeared on the midseason first team, Maurer on the second team and Duryea on the third team ... The trio of Blue Devils was also selected to the 2014 Tewaaraton Award women’s watch list presented by Panama Jack last month. 

Balanced Attack
Fifteen different Blue Devils have scored a goal and 13 players have notched at least one assist this season ... Twelve Blue Devils have recorded multiple-goal games, led by junior Kerrin Maurer, who owns five hat tricks ... In a 25-4 season-opening victory over Elon Feb. 7, 14 different Duke players found the back of the net with Maurer tallying a career-high six markers.

Maurer Quarterbacking the Offense
Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer is once again one of the Blue Devils’ most dependable playmakers up front ... She leads the team this spring in points (50), goals (31) and assists (19) and ranks second in draw controls (27) ... The Setauket, N.Y., native ranks second in the ACC and ninth nationally in points per game with a 5.00 average ... Maurer is also third in the conference in scoring at 3.10 goals per game and ranks ninth nationally in goals.

Virden Quick on the Draw
Duke is 5-1 this spring when winning the draw controls category ... Senior defender Taylor Virden has been scrappy on the wings, leading the team with 38 draw controls ... She ranked sixth in the ACC in draws entering the week ... Virden won a career-high six draws last season against Vanderbilt (March 2, 2013) and matched that total with six against Virginia last weekend ... The Ellicott City, Md., native ranks fifth on Duke’s all-time list for career draw controls with 160 over her four seasons.

Virden, Duryea Among ACC Leaders
Returning IWLCA All-Americans Taylor Virden and Kelsey Duryea continue to anchor the defense in 2014 ... Duryea ranks second in the conference in ground balls per game (2.60) while Virden is seventh (1.90) ... Duryea is also second among ACC goalkeepers with an average of 8.10 saves per game ... Virden ranks fifth in the league in caused turnovers per game (1.40).

Devilish on Defense
Duke’s defensive unit has held opponents without a goal for 15 minutes or more nine times this season ... The longest scoreless streak of the year came in a 14-6 win over ACC opponent Virgnia Tech March 9.

Scoring Streaks
Junior Kerrin Maurer has tallied at least one point in a career-high 16 consecutive games dating back to last season ... The Setauket, N.Y., native has scored multiple goals in all 10 games this spring and recorded multiple assists six times ... Sophomore Kelci Smesko (11 games) and junior Brigid Smith (10) are also in the midst of career-long scoring streaks.

Maurer, Virden Moving Up Career Lists
Senior defender Taylor Virden and junior attacker Kerrin Maurer provide veteran experience at both ends of the field ... Maurer paces the Blue Devils in points, goals and assists this season and current ranks fifth in program history in career assists (78) and 12th in career points (169) ... Maurer reached the 100-point barrier and topped the 50-assist milestone as a sophomore last season ... Virden leads the team in draw controls and caused turnovers in 2014 and ranks fifth all-time in career draw controls with 160 ... She reached the 100-ground ball mark for her career last weekend against Virginia, becoming the 26th player in Duke history to amass 100 ground balls.
