DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women’s lacrosse team (11-7) will make its 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals, squaring off against top-seeded Maryland Saturday, May 17 at 12 p.m. in College Park, Md. The Blue Devils advanced to the tournament quarterfinals with victories over Stanford and No. 8 seed Notre Dame last weekend.

Duke by the Numbers
1 – Unseeded team remaining in the 2014 NCAA Championship field (Duke)
10 – Consecutive trips by the Blue Devils to the NCAA quarterfinals
203 – Career points accumulated by junior Kerrin Maurer, who surpassed the 200-point mark last Sunday at Notre Dame

Maryland Series History
Saturday’s NCAA quarterfinal contest marks the 28th all-time meeting between Duke and Maryland with the Terrapins leading the series, 18-9 ... Maryland has won each of the last four meetings in the series, including a 19-10 decision March 1 in Durham ... The Blue Devils are 1-2 historically when facing the Terrapins in the NCAA Championship and 2-9 when playing Maryland in College Park.

Last Time We Met
Duke opened the ACC portion of its 2014 slate March 1 in Durham, falling to the Terrapins by a 19-10 score ... Down 9-5 at halftime, the Blue Devils opened the second period with two quick goals but Maryland answered with a 6-0 scoring run and tacked on four more inside the final seven minutes ... Beth Glaros of the Terrapins tallied six goals and teammate Taylor Cummings added five ... Sophomore Maddy Acton and juniors Kerrin Maurer and Erin Tenneson registered two markers each to pace the Duke attack. 

Duke in the NCAA Championship
The Blue Devils earned the program’s 17th consecutive selection to the NCAA Tournament field ... Duke is 21-16 all-time in the tournament while making six trips to the national semifinals (1999, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011) ... The Blue Devils are one of five programs with consecutive appearances of 10 or more years, joining Maryland (25), Virginia (19), Northwestern (11) and North Carolina (10) ... Under the direction of head coach Kerstin Kimel, the program is 6-7 all-time in quarterfinal contests ... Duke is the only unseeded team remaining in the 2014 NCAA tournament field.

Quarterfinals Streak Continues
The Blue Devils will be making the program’s 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals Saturday in College Park ... Duke is one of just three programs with current streaks of 10 or more consecutive quarterfinals trips, joining Northwestern (11) and North Carolina (10) in accomplishing the feat.

Scouting the Terrapins
Top-ranked and top-seeded Maryland reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the eighth-straight year with a 13-5 victory over Penn Sunday, May 11 in the second round ... The Terrapins have compiled a 20-1 ledger this spring and captured their sixth consecutive ACC Championship title ... Kelly McPartland paces the attack with 84 points on 54 goals and 30 assists while Brooke Griffin leads the team in scoring with 56 goals ... Erin Collins owns a team-high 57 draw controls while Cummings has accounted for 28 caused turnovers ... In goal, Abbey Clipp has posted a .442 save percentage and leads the ACC with an 8.14 goals against average.

Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke (11-7, 3-4 ACC) defeated Stanford and eighth-seeded Notre Dame last weekend to reach the NCAA quarterfinals ... The Blue Devils were ninth in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll ... Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer guides the offense with 55 goals and 29 assists while junior Taylor Trimble and senior Sydney Peterson are second with 40 points each ... Returning All-American defender Taylor Virden leads the way in draw controls (61) and caused turnovers (26) ... Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea owns a 9.61 goals against average and a .443 save percentage in the net ... Duke’s balanced attack is outscoring opponents by a 230-172 margin. 

Last Time Out
Senior Maddy Morrissey turned in a career-best six-point performance and junior Kerrin Maurer added a hat trick as Duke earned a 10-8 victory over eighth-seeded Notre Dame May 11 in the second round of the NCAA Championship ... Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea totaled 11 saves in the net for the Blue Devils to anchor a strong defensive effort that also included 14 caused turnovers ... Rachel Sexton paced Notre Dame’s attack with three goals ... Cortney Fortunato, the Irish’s leading scorer, was held without a point by the Duke defense.

Duke Trio Nets All-Region Accolades
Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer and senior defender Taylor Virden were named to the 2014 All-South Region first team and junior midfielder Taylor Trimble garnered second team honors, as announced by the IWLCA Monday ... Virden received the third all-region selection of her career while Maurer and Trimble were honored for the second consecutive season. 

Duke in the National Landscape
In the May 12 edition of the NCAA’s Division I team statistics, the Blue Devils ranked 18th nationally in scoring offense with an average of 12.78 goals per game ... Duke also ranked among the top 30 teams in the country in scoring margin (25th, 3.22gpg), and points (26th, 335).

Current Blue Devils vs. Maryland
Nine current Blue Devils have recorded at least one point against the Terrapins in their careers, led by junior Kerrin Maurer’s 14 points (6g, 8a) in five contests ... Senior Maddy Morrissey has posted nine goals in seven games against Maryland while classmate Taylor Virden paces the defense with six ground balls and three caused turnovers, in addition to 10 draw controls ... Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea made her collegiate debut against the Terrapins in 2013 and matched a career-high with 15 saves in the teams’ NCAA quarterfinal meeting last May ... Senior defender Tara Stokes had a career-best three caused turnovers against Maryland last season in the NCAA Tournament.

Maurer Quarterbacking the Offense
Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer is once again one of the Blue Devils’ most dependable playmakers up front ... She leads the team this spring in points (84), goals (55) and assists (29) and ranks second in draw controls (54) ... The Setauket, N.Y., native ranked third in the ACC and seventh nationally in points per game entering  last week ... Maurer was also third in the conference and 12th nationally in scoring at 3.06 goals per game ... She tallied a career-high six goals in the season opener against Elon (Feb. 7) and has matched her career-best single game output of eight points twice this season ... She notched a pair of five-goal performances against Louisville (Feb. 9) and Notre Dame (Apr. 11) and owns 10 hat tricks on the season.

Balanced Attack
Fifteen different Blue Devils have scored a goal and 14 players have notched at least one assist this season ... Twelve Blue Devils have recorded multiple-goal games, led by junior Kerrin Maurer, who owns 10 hat tricks ... In a 25-4 season-opening victory over Elon Feb. 7, 14 different Duke players found the back of the net with Maurer tallying a career-high six markers.

Virden Quick on the Draw
Duke is 7-3 this spring when winning the draw controls category ... Senior defender Taylor Virden has been scrappy on the wings, leading the team with 61 draw controls ... She ranked seventh in the ACC in draws entering the week ... Virden won a career-high six draws last season against Vanderbilt (March 2, 2013) and matched that total with six against Virginia (March 22) ... The Ellicott City, Md., native moved into second on Duke’s all-time list for career draw controls against Syracuse (March 29) and owns 183 over her four seasons.

Scoring Streaks
Junior Kerrin Maurer has tallied at least one point in a career-high 24 consecutive games dating back to last season ... The Setauket, N.Y., native has scored multiple goals in 17 of 18 games this spring and recorded multiple assists nine times ... Junior midfielder Katie Trees (3 games) is also in the midst of a career-long scoring streak.

Duo Climbing Single-Season Charts
In her third season, junior attacker Kerrin Maurer continues to etch her name into the program record books ... The Setauket, N.Y., native’s team-leading 84 points this spring rank her fourth on Duke’s single-season chart .. Maurer is also seventh on the Blue Devils’ single-season list for goals (55) and 10th in assists (29) ... Senior defender Taylor Virden comes in at sixth on the single season chart for draw controls with 61 this spring.

Blue Devils Moving Up Career Lists
Senior defender Taylor Virden and junior attacker Kerrin Maurer provide veteran experience at both ends of the field ... Maurer is currently third in program history in career assists (88) and is tied for eighth in career points (203), reaching the 200-point mark last weekend at Notre Dame, while junior Taylor Trimble is 20th all-time in points   (112) ... Virden ranks second all-time in career draw controls with 183 ... She reached the 100-ground ball mark for her career against Virginia (March 22), becoming the 26th player in Duke history to achieve the feat.

Blue Devils vs. the ACC
Duke compiled a 3-4 ledger this season in ACC competition ... The Blue Devils are 42-33 all-time in conference regular season games ... Duke finished fifth in the league standings ... The squad earned conference wins over North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech while dropping decisions to Boston College, Maryland, Notre Dame and Syracuse during the regular season ... Junior Kerrin Maurer paced the Duke attack with 23 goals in seven ACC games while senior Sydney Peterson (14g, 6a) contributed 20 points ... Senior Taylor Virden corralled a team-best 28 draw controls ... The Blue Devils tallied 11.86 goals per game in ACC regular season play while allowing 12.29 ... The squad ranked second in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (7.43) ...
