DURHAM, N.C. – Senior defender Taylor Virden and junior attacker Kerrin Maurer were selected for All-America honors by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), as announced by the organization Tuesday, May 20. Virden collected first team accolades for the second consecutive season while Maurer collected the first such honor of her career, earning a spot on the second team.

Duke was one of 13 teams with multiple All-America selections on the 2014 lists. The Blue Devils have now had at least two players receive All-America recognition for 16 consecutive seasons.

A Tewaaraton Award nominee and first team All-South Region and All-ACC pick for the second-straight year, Virden tallied a career-best 62 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers during her senior campaign. The Blue Devils’ most experienced defender, she helped the squad limit opponents to 9.84 goals per game and hold 10 opposing teams to single-digit scoring. Virden reached the 100-ground ball mark for her career this spring and concluded her career ranked second all-time in program history with 184 draw controls over four seasons.

The Blue Devils’ leader in points, goals and assists this spring, Maurer reached career highs in the goals (58) and points (87) categories. She finished the 2014 campaign ranked fourth on Duke’s single-season charts in points and seventh in goals while also ranking second on the team in draw controls (55). A product of Setauket, N.Y., Maurer totaled 11 hat tricks and nine multiple assist games in 2014 and recorded at least one point in 24 consecutive games dating back to the 2013 season. She joined Virden in being named a Tewaaraton Award nominee and was also a first team All-South Region and second team All-ACC selection.

Duke concluded the spring with a final record of 11-8, reaching the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship for the 10th consecutive season.
