DURHAM, N.C. – Four members of the Duke women’s lacrosse program have received Academic Honor Roll distinction from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for the 2013-14 academic year, as announced by the organization Tuesday. The Blue Devils’ four selections for the 2013-14 edition of the honor roll led all ACC institutions.

Recent graduates Molly Quirke, Tara Stokes and Taylor Virden and rising senior Erin Tenneson were among the 233 Division I student-athletes from 79 different institutions to be honored on this year’s list. All student-athletes were nominated by their schools and achieved at least junior status academically and had a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Quirke, a four-year member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the first time in her career after graduating from Duke in May with a degree in public policy studies and a certificate in Markets and Management Studies. She appeared in 11 games in the Duke midfield this past spring before missing the rest of the season due to injury. Quirke totaled 58 goals and 21 assists for 79 points during her career and earned three selections to the ACC All-Academic Team.

Stokes received her second consecutive selection to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll to go along with her fourth ACC Academic Honor Roll accolade. A public policy studies major and economics minor while at Duke, she also earned a certificate in Markets and Management Studies. The defender from Gladwyne, Pa., took the field in 16 contests in 2014, tallying three caused turnovers. She concluded her career with 14 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.

A psychology major also pursuing a certificate in Markets and Management Studies, Tenneson made her first career appearance on the honor roll. The midfielder saw the field in all 19 games last spring while starting 14. She recorded nine goals and three assists to go with nine ground balls and eight draw controls. A three-year member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, Tenneson enters her senior campaign with a total of 18 goals and three assists for 21 points.

Virden collected All-America honors for the second straight year in 2014 in addition to making her fourth appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll and second on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. The defender from Ellicott City, Md., was also a Tewaaraton Award nominee and first team All-South Region and All-ACC pick for the second consecutive season. She tallied a career-best 62 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers during her final spring and rounded out her collegiate career ranked second all-time at Duke with 184 draw controls over four seasons.
