DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's lacrosse team has it's final regular season home game against Boston University May 4, at 7 p.m.  Recently GoDuke.com sat down with senior Maddie Salamone to learn more about the Bel Air, Md., native.

GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Maddie Salamone: My proudest moments at Duke have been each time I have come back from a knee surgery.  Nothing makes me prouder than putting on a Duke uniform and getting out there with my teammates.  Each time I have come back after my three surgeries, it means just a little bit more, knowing all the blood, sweat and tears it took to get back on the field again.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite spot on campus?
MS: Koskinen is my favorite place. It’s one of the best places to play and it’s also really peaceful when the sun’s out and no one is around. I really like that area.

GoDuke.com: When did you first start playing lacrosse?
MS: I first started when I was seven. Actually, I played center and goalie, so I took the draw and would play in goal. Eventually they realized that was a bad idea because I would run out of the goal more than I was in it.

GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite part about being a Duke student-athlete?
MS: The community of the athletes here is really awesome. It’s really great because we’re at a unique place where the student population also loves athletics. It’s really fun to be a part of that.

GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite class at Duke?
MS:
Television journalism. I really enjoyed that. It was with Clay Johnson and I learned so much. He’s really good at what he does. He does documentaries for a living. It was a really fascinating thing that you don’t get to do every day.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any words of wisdom for freshmen or future Blue Devils?
MS:
Try to take advantage everything Duke has to offer. There’s so much and you think that you have all the time in the world, but it really does fly by. Just enjoy the moment.

GoDuke.com: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?  What do you want to be now?
MS: When I was younger, I always wanted to be a policeman.  I don’t really know why. My uncle was, so I guess that’s the story behind why. Now I think I’m going to get into television journalism. I had an internship this summer that I really loved. That was my niche, so I’d love to get back into that and get some experience there.

GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
MS:
Definitely my parents. They’ve always been my biggest supporters. My mom especially is supportive and gets me going when I need to.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any pregame superstitions or rituals?
MS:
I guess I wear the same socks every game. I used to be more superstitious, but since I’ve been in college that’s kind of gone away.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite midnight snack?
MS:
Cereal. My roommates definitely know that.

GoDuke.com: If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpower to be?
MS: I’ve always wanted to fly.

GoDuke.com: If you weren’t playing lacrosse, what other sport would you play?
MS:
I think the biggest thing since coming here and just focusing on lacrosse is I really miss basketball and field hockey. I played those sports in high school and loved them. I miss playing them because it was fun to have different sports you were involved in.
