DURHAM, N.C.Senior Christie Kaestner and the Duke women’s lacrosse team are heading to the NCAA semifinals where the Blue Devils will face No. 1 Maryland Friday, May 27 at 5 p.m. in Stony Brook, N.Y. Check out her latest blog below to get all the details on Duke’s quarterfinal win over No. 4 Florida this past Saturday.

Now here’s the deal, our mission is short and sweet: win the National Championship. Easy said, not so easy done. BUT we are one step closer ladies and gentlemen! The Duke women’s lacrosse team is a competitive bunch: parking spots, Dairy Queen lines, stick checks and stretching lines -you name it, we’re trying to be first. I know I used to break a sweat racing my siblings to the car for the front seat…and still do. The good news is, with that competitive edge comes fierce competition on the field. And we did WORK this weekend! First of all, have you all been to Florida in May? Like saying it was hot doesn’t do it justice…I felt like we were playing a game in Sonoran Desert (second hottest in the world, Sahara is too aggressive, we lived). Point of the matter is our parents needed to be hydrating in the stands.

Also, who here has flown charter? Because if I ever make a gazillion dollars (coaching college lacrosse), my first purchase will be a private jet. It’s INCREDIBLE. We bus on the tarmac, get off the bus on the plane, off the plane on the bus and off we go. No lines, no crowds, big plush seats, Gatorades, Cheetos and all that jazz. We were fortunate enough to have some people in our athletic department, including Dr. White (our AD), with us on the trip. He flew the red-eye from San Francisco after watching our tennis teams compete at Stanford and paced the sidelines by himself like a nervous father. He’s a great man.

It was a terrific trip and we took on the Gators for a spot in the Final Four. For the second week in a row, we put together a great team effort with many people contributing and stepping up, and got the win on their home field. For the seniors, it was extra special because we are the only class to have been to a Final Four. To be able to lead our team to another experience like our freshmen year is tremendous for us. And off to Stony Brook we go!

The plan, you might ask? We head up Wednesday night (hopefully), practice Thursday and play the Maryland Terps Friday night at 5. If you are in the area, PLEASE come! We’d love a big fan base, as we keep moving on to our main goal -- winning it all. One step closer!

In other news, the moving process is depressing. My mother has been on me about tackling some packing, so I decided to take the pictures off my wall…tactical error. That should have been the last stuff to go. The sophomores and juniors are moving into their new apartments and working out their biceps carrying boxes and furniture. Hey, it’s beach season soon. It’s been VERY difficult saying goodbye to people this week…senior year is hard with no set plans of seeing people in the near future. We are fortunate to live in a complex that allows us to pop in on people all the time…I will miss it so much.

I wish I had more news for you (besides the win, which is HUGE news), but postseason is pretty routine. Practice, team dinners, good clean fun usually involving movies and/or life chats and/or facebook stalking people, and plenty of sleep. It’s a rough life, I know. Tell me again why it has to end?

Also, we gotta start thinking about a replacement blogger. Next week will potentially be my last blog (I have something special already prepared), so everyone, start mentally and emotionally preparing. Well, let’s face it, we can’t really prepare, it’s too hard, and I might just blog anyways for years to come (via Kerstin and DukeLaxTwitter, of course).

Stick around everyone; Duke Lax is about to get extremely exciting. One more weekend, and say prayers that next time I check in, it will be as a champion. We love your support and need it coming up! Let’s go Duke, this is it, everything we’ve dreamed of. Eleven years ago I decided I wanted to win a championship, and hopefully this time next week it will have come true. Thanks for checking in everyone, and send positive vibes our way! Hope to see some of you this weekend!

Love, lax, red carpet tarmacs and ACC rematches,
