DeMairo Earns NCAA Elite 88 Recognition

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Duke University's Monica DeMairo has been honored as the recipient of the DI women's lacrosse 2011 NCAA Elite 88 Award , which recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating at the final site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

DeMairo, a sociology major from Massapequa, N.Y., is the first Blue Devils women's lacrosse player to earn the distinction.

In her two seasons at Duke, DeMairo has appeared in 25 games with the Blue Devils, totaling six goals, nine ground balls, six caused turnovers and four draw controls. In 2011, DeMairo set a career high with two goals in Duke's win over Saint Mary's April 17.

No. 5 Duke is set to take on No. 1 Maryland Friday, May 27 at 5 p.m. from Stony Brook University's LaValle Stadium in the semifinal round of the 2011 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship.
