DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women’s lacrosse team placed a league-high 10 student-athletes on the 2011 All-ACC Academic team as announced Wednesday by commissioner John Swofford. Senior Sarah Bullard earned the distinction for the fourth time in her career, while redshirt junior Emma Hamm and junior Kat Thomas are third time honorees. Senior Christie Kaestner earns her second All-ACC Academic distinction and senior Virginia Crotty, junior Amanda Jones and Mollie Mackler, sophomore Lauren Martin and freshmen Molly Quirke and Taylor Virden are making their first appearance on the list.
Since the inception of the All-ACC Academic team in 2006, Duke has had a league-high 54student-athletes named to the squad and has now placed at least eight student-athletes on the team for the sixth consecutive year.
Sixteen student‐athletes were repeat All‐ACC Academic team honorees, while 10 student‐athletes who earned all‐conference honors this past season also secured spots on the 2011 All‐ACC Academic Women’s Lacrosse team in Duke's Hamm, Kaestner and Thomas, Maryland's Laura Merrifield and Katie Schwarzmann, North Carolina's Corey Donohoe and Laura Zimmerman, Virginia's Liz Downs and Virginia Tech's Allie Emala.
All six ACC programs were represented with Duke's nine selections leading the way. Boston College added seven selections, while Virginia Tech had six named to this year’s academic roster. North Carolina followed closely with five honorees, while Virginia and Maryland rounded out the 35‐member team with four and three recipients, respectively.
To be eligible for consideration for the All‐ACC Academic team, a student‐athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
