No. 6 Duke Continues ACC Swing with Saturday Contest at Boston College
Sixth-ranked Duke (9-2, 2-2 ACC) visits Boston College (5-6, 2-2 ACC) in its third consecutive ACC contest Saturday, Apr. 6 at 1 p.m. in Newton, Mass. … The Blue Devils have won three straight road contests entering the weekend matchup and are 6-0 this season against unranked foes … The Eagles enter the mid-week matchup with a 5-6 ledger after defeating Virginia, 10-7, on March 30.

Boston College Series History
Saturday’s contest marks the 12th all-time meeting between Duke and Boston College with the Blue Devils undefeated in the all-time series at 11-0 ... Duke is 5-0 against the Eagles in games played in Newton.

Last Time We Met
The last meeting between the two teams came on April 7, 2012 at Koskinen Stadium in Durham ... Both squads were ranked inside the top-20 nationally heading into the matchup, with the sixth-ranked Blue Devils topping No. 20 Boston College, 12-11, in a come-from-behind victory ... 2012 graduate Emma Hamm led the way for Duke with two goals and three assists, in addition to eight draw controls ... Sophomore Taylor Trimble also added a pair of goals in the win ... The Blue Devils won the draw control battle by a 16-9 margin and converted on all three free position opportunities ... In goal, 2012 graduate Mollie Mackler totaled six saves, including four off free position shots.

Duke vs. the Atlantic Coast Conference
The Blue Devils are 60-50 all-time against teams from their own conference and 39-28 all-time in ACC regular season games ... The squad is 2-2 in league action this spring after topping Virginia Tech (Feb. 8) and Virginia (March 23) and falling to Maryland (Feb. 24) and North Carolina (March 28) ... Duke currently sits third in the conference standings behind Maryland and North Carolina.

Scouting the Eagles
Boston College owns a record of 5-6 and a 2-2 mark in the ACC after edging Virginia, 10-7, in its last outing on March 30 ... Covie Stanwick leads the Boston College offense with 50 points on 36 goals and 14 assists, which ranks her second in the league in goals per game and points per game ... Mikaela Rix is second on the team in goals (28) while pacing the Eagles in draw controls (35) and in ground balls (21) ... As a team, Boston College is second in the conference in draw controls per game (13.73) ... Defensively, Kate McCarthy sits atop the ACC with 1.40 caused turnovers per contest ... Goalkeeper Emily Mata was named this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week after posting 20 saves and a .455 save percentage in the win over Virginia.

Scouting the Blue Devils
No. 6 Duke is 9-2 (2-2 ACC) on the season after dropping a narrow 12-11 decision to then-No. 3 North Carolina in overtime March 28 in Durham ... The Blue Devils rank third in the ACC standings coming into the weekend ... Sophomore Kerrin Maurer leads the team in points (46) and assists (21) while senior Makenzie Hommel has scored a team-high 31 goals ... Maurer is second in the league in assists per game (1.91) and third in points per game (4.18) ... Junior Taylor Virden leads Duke and the ACC with 22 ground balls ... In goal, freshman Kelsey Duryea has started the last six games, posting an  8.94 goals against average and a league-leading .556 save percentage ... A two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Week, Duryea has also guided the Blue Devils to a conference-leading .500 save percentage and an ACC-high 8.64 saves per game average. 

Last Time Out
Sixth-ranked Duke came back to tie the game twice in the second half but ultimately fell to then-No. 3 North Carolina in overtime, 12-11, March 28 in Durham ... The Blue Devils built a two-goal margin as late as 19:15 in the second half but North Carolina closed the contest on a 5-2 run to emerge with the win in overtime on a gamewinner by Kara Cannizzaro ... Senior attacker Makenzie Hommel collected her team-leading seventh hat trick of the season with four goals and sophomore Kerrin Maurer added three points on two goals and an assist ... Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea finished with a season-best 15 saves and suffered just her first loss since making her debut in the cage against Maryland Feb. 24.

Duryea Maturing Quickly in the Cage
Freshman Kelsey Duryea has been solid in the net since making her first appearance in the second half against Maryland on Feb. 24 ... Duryea has started all six contests since then, averaging a nation-best 10.57 saves per game ... The Beverly, Mass., native also ranks second nationally in save percentage at .556 and leads the ACC in saves (74), saves per game and save percentage ... Duryea recorded a season-high 15 saves in last week’s overtime loss to North Carolina.

Duke Top-15 Nationally in Points Scored
In the March 31 edition of the NCAA’s Division I team statistics, the Blue Devils were ranked 11th nationally in points scored with 209 through 11 games (152g, 57a) ... Duke also ranked among the top 20 teams in the country  in scoring offense (14th, 13.82 gpg), scoring defense (t-19th, 8.64 gapg) and in scoring margin (13th, 5.18).

Devilish on Defense
The Blue Devils’ defense ranks third in the ACC and is tied for 19th nationally, allowing opponents just 8.64 goals per game ... Duke has limited opponents to single-digit scoring six times this season, including in a three-game span against Jacksonville (March 13), Dartmouth (March 17) and Virginia (March 23) ... The team collected the second shutout in program history and first since the 1998 season in a 23-0 victory over Presbyterian (Feb. 10) ... Sophomore defender Gabby Moise is tied for third in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (1.27) while junior Taylor Virden ranks sixth (1.09).

Maurer One of the Nation’s Top Scorers
Following an impressive rookie campaign, sophomore Kerrin Maurer continues to direct the Blue Devil attack in 2013 ... Maurer currently ranks fourth in the ACC and is tied for 17th nationally with 46 points this season for an average of 4.18 per contest ... The Setauket, N.Y., native is also second in the conference and tied for 19th nationally in assists (21), and is tied for 11th in the ACC and 64th in the NCAA in goals (25) ... She has posted three hat tricks and recorded six multi-assist games this spring, in addition to matching or setting new career highs in every category.

Scoring Streaks
Sophomore Kerrin Maurer has scored at least one point in every game this season while sophomore Taylor Trimble has registered a point in 10 straight contests entering the matchup with Boston College ... Trimble and classmate Brigid Smith are both in the midst of career-best scoring streaks, with Smith scoring in each of her past five outings ... Senior Makenzie Hommel has posted a hat trick in three consecutive games and owns seven on the spring.

Scheduling the Best
Duke’s 2013 slate currently features five teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll ... The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season against then-No. 4 Maryland on Feb. 24 ... The Terrapins moved up to the top spot in the following week’s IWLCA poll ... Duke has notched wins against No. 11 Georgetown (March 9), No. 13 Dartmouth (March 17) and No. 9 Virginia (March 23).

Rookies Make Immediate Impact
Six Blue Devil freshmen have seen the field so far this season with Kelci Smesko and Kelsey Duryea entering the starting lineup ... Smesko and classmate Maddy Acton each collected their first collegiate goals in the season opener against Virginia Tech (Feb. 8) ... Smesko has started every contest at attack and has tallied 21 points on 13 goals and eight assists, with the eight helpers ranking her second on the squad ... Acton has played in every game, recording 11 points (9g, 2a) to go with seven draw controls ... Duryea made her first appearance between the pipes in the second half against Maryland and has started the six games since then ... Duryea leads the nation with an average of 10.57 saves per game ... The native of Beverly, Mass., also owns an ACC-high 74 saves and a .556 save percentage, and posted a season-high 15 saves against North Carolina (March 28).

Attack Duo Moving Up Career Lists
Senior Makenzie Hommel and sophomore Kerrin Maurer have both started the 2013 season in strong fashion ... Hommel has registered a team-high 31 goals to go with six assists for a total of 37 points, while Maurer owns 25 goals and leads the team in assists (21) and points (46) ... Hommel needs just one more point and Maurer five to reach the 100-point mark for their careers ... Maurer is also approaching the 50-assist milestone with 45 in just her second season.
