DURHAM, N.C. – Senior attacker Makenzie Hommel was one of 12 women’s lacrosse players named to the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Tournament team, as announced by the league Sunday, Apr. 28 at the conclusion of the championship game.
The Blue Devils’ leading scorer on the year, Hommel paced the Duke attack with four points (3g, 1a) in a quarterfinal loss to Virginia Thursday, Apr. 25. The Setauket , N.Y., native collected her ninth hat trick of the season, with her first two scores knotting the game at 2-2 early in the first half.
For the spring, Hommel has registered a team-leading 44 goals to go with 10 assists. She was one of five Blue Devils to receive All-ACC recognition, earning the accolade for the first time in her career.
Maryland led all schools with six players on the all-tournament team after capturing its fifth consecutive ACC title Sunday in a 12-8 victory over North Carolina. The Terrapins’ Katie Schwarzmann was tabbed the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Duke concludes regular season action Sunday, May 5 in a 12 p.m. meeting with Boston University. The game is slated to be broadcast live on the Blue Devil Network.
