OSHAWA, ONTARIO – The U.S. national women’s lacrosse team downed Canada, 13-2, Tuesday evening to earn the number one seed in the championship bracket at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship. Team USA concluded pool play with a perfect 4-0 ledger, outscoring its opponents by a combined score of 67-20 in the first four games.

The U.S. opened Tuesday evening’s game by scoring eight unanswered goals and held Canada (3-1) to just two shots in the first half. Team USA also forced 16 turnovers in the first period.

Former Blue Devil Megan Huether came on in the second half, registering two saves in goal while helping to preserve the 13-2 victory.

Huether and fellow Duke graduate Sarah Bullard will return to action along with Team USA in the quarterfinal round Thursday, July 18 at 12:30 p.m. EST against the winner of eighth-seeded Haudenosaunee and ninth-seeded Ireland.
