DURHAM, N.C. – Seventh-ranked Duke (9-6, 3-4 ACC) earned the No. 4 seed in the 2014 ACC Championship and will face No. 5 seed Virginia in the quarterfinals Thursday, Apr. 24 at 1 p.m. at Boston College’s Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer guides the offense with 47 goals and 25 assists while sophomore Kelci Smesko is second on the team with 37 points (25g, 12a) ... Returning All-American defender Taylor Virden leads the way in draw controls (56) and caused turnovers (19) ... Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea, a second team All-America selection last spring, owns a 10.00 goals against average and a .424 save percentage in the net ... Duke’s balanced attack is outscoring opponents by a 202-149 margin. 

Last Time Out
Junior Kerrin Maurer scored with 26 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Duke over third-ranked North Carolina Apr. 16 at Kenan Stadium ... The regular season meeting between the Tobacco Road rivals went into overtime for the second-straight year, with the Blue Devils winning by a 7-6 score ... Maurer and senior Sydney Peterson led the charge for Duke offensively with three goals each ... The squad also turned in a balanced effort at the draw and the defense limited the Tar Heels to their second-lowest scoring output of the spring.

Against Ranked Opponents
Since the 2009 season, Duke is 37-35 against ranked teams ... The Blue Devils have lost just six times to teams outside the top-10 in the past four years ... The squad went 5-5 against ranked opponents in 2013 ... Duke is 2-6 against ranked foes this season following last Wednesday’s victory over then-No. 3 North Carolina.

Blue Devils Sweep ACC Weekly Awards
Junior Kerrin Maurer and senior Taylor Virden were named the ACC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, following last week’s win over North Carolina ... Maurer earned her eighth hat trick and netted the gamewinner with 26 seconds remaining in overtime ... Virden had two ground balls and one caused turnover and helped the defense hold the Tar Heels to their second-lowest scoring output of the season.

Maurer Quarterbacking the Offense
Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer is once again one of the Blue Devils’ most dependable playmakers up front ... She leads the team this spring in points (72), goals (47) and assists (25) and ranks second in draw controls (48) ... The Setauket, N.Y., native ranked second in the ACC and sixth nationally in points per game entering the week ... Maurer was also third in the conference in scoring at 3.13 goals per game and ranked 13th nationally in goals.

Virden Quick on the Draw
Duke is 7-3 this spring when winning the draw controls category ... Senior defender Taylor Virden has been scrappy on the wings, leading the team with 56 draw controls ... She ranked sixth in the ACC in draws entering the week ... Virden won a career-high six draws last season against Vanderbilt (March 2, 2013) and matched that total with six against Virginia (March 22) ... The Ellicott City, Md., native moved into second on Duke’s all-time list for career draw controls against Syracuse (March 29) and owns 178 over her four seasons.

Blue Devils Moving Up Career Lists
Senior defender Taylor Virden and junior attacker Kerrin Maurer provide veteran experience at both ends of the field ... Maurer currently ranks fourth in program history in career assists (83) and is tied for 10th in career points (191), while junior Taylor Trimble is 20th all-time in points   (106) after reaching the 100-point mark against Syracuse (March 29) ... Virden ranks second all-time in career draw controls with 178 ... She reached the 100-ground ball mark for her career against Virginia (March 22), becoming the 26th player in Duke history to achieve the feat.
