DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University men's soccer team held its first practices of the 2012 season today. The Blue Devils opened camp with the Dr. Kennedy Cup and concluded the day with an afternoon session.

"I'm really pleased with our first sessions today," head coach John Kerr said. "There is always more work to be done, but I saw some great things out on the field today. The guys came back in great shape and I'm excited for the season ahead."

Duke continues practice with two sessions each day prior to leaving for Fort Wayne, Ind., for the annual SHinDigZ National Soccer Festival. The Blue Devils are set to match up against Big Ten powers Ohio State and Michigan State. Duke and the Buckeyes square off on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m., and take on the Spartans Aug. 19 at 1 p.m.

Headlining day one of competition was the group of Jake Butwin, Jack Coleman, Jonathan Aguirre, Alex MerrillLuis Rendon and Alex Sauciuc taking home the Dr. Kennedy Cup title. The Dr. Kennedy Cup is a round robin competition of small sided games between four teams and the squad to come away with the most points earns the coveted cup.

Duke makes its home debut Aug. 31 in the first day of the John Rennie Nike Classic against Santa Clara at 7:30 p.m.
