DURHAM, N.C.—On the heels of distributing three assists en route to leading Duke to the 2014 John Rennie Nike Invitational title, senior Sean Davis was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week the organization announced Tuesday. Davis was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Davis, Duke’s field general in the midfield, played all 110 minutes in the Blue Devils’ 1-1 draw with 2013 NCAA Tournament qualifier Loyola Marymount Friday night. On a single day’s rest, Davis came out and provided the assist on Duke’s first goal for a 1-0 lead against Stetson.
Trailing 2-1 early in the second half, Davis sent Cameron Moseley a perfect pass on top of the penalty box to even the score 2-2 in the 50th minute. Davis added one more helper on the afternoon with a second assist on Duke’s fourth goal to seal the win over the Hatters.
Davis’ three assists match his total from a year ago and are the most by a Blue Devil since Chris Tweed-Kent had three against Furman Oct. 26, 2010.
Duke hits the road for the first time this season Friday at Southern Methodist. Kickoff is slated for 8:30 p.m. (EDT). Fans can watch live on SMUMustangs.com with a subscription to their video service.
