DURHAM, N.C.-Former Duke University men's soccer player Cole Grossman made his Major League Soccer debut on Tuesday night in the Columbus Crew's CONCACAF Champions League match against Real Salt Lake. Grossman anchored the defensive midfield in a 0-0 draw with Real Salt Lake.

Grossman, who was picked 28th in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, was one of five players making their debut for the Crew. The former Blue Devil was one of two rookies to start for the MLS club. He went the distance, playing all 90 minutes in the defensive midfield.

He had a look on goal in the waning minutes, but his shot skipped wide. The Crew plays the second leg of the CCL on March 1 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. The game will be televised live by Fox Soccer Channel at 10 p.m., (ET).
