Men's Soccer Welcomes Six Additions to the Program

DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University men's soccer head coach John Kerr welcomes the addition of six players to the Blue Devils 2012 soccer squad. A highly decorated group of five incoming freshmen and a transfer student-athlete will join the Blue Devils in August.

The list of six includes players from five different states and another from Toronto, Canada. Chad Bush (Toronto, Canada), Wade Clement (Los Angeles, Calif.), Zach Mathers (Keller, Texas), Luis Rendon (Richmond, Va.) and Ryan Thompson (Cary, N.C.) all come to Duke after outstanding scholastic and club soccer careers, while Jack Coleman (Norman, Okla.) becomes a Blue Devil after a one season at Indiana University.

"We are very excited about this group of guys," Kerr said. "They are incredibly talented and will make us a better team right away. And even more importantly they are outstanding young men. We are looking forward to officially welcoming them to the Duke family in August."

Chad Bush - Ottawa, Canada - Toronto F.C. Academy - Goalkeeper

Bush joins the Blue Devils with a strong goalkeeping resume that includes experience with the Canada Men's National Team program ... A member of the Toronto FC Academy squad ... Most recently was selected to compete with the Ottawa Fury of the Premier Development League this summer ... Picked as one of 19 players to participate in the Canada Under-20 camp as it prepares for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013 ... Also was a part of Canada's U-17 squad that competed in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2011 ... Played for the Ottawa Fury U-15 and U-17 squads as well ... Played for the Fury U-17 squad at the USL Super-Y League North American Finals at the age of 15 and was named to All-Tournament Team.

Wade Clement - Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Santa Monica United - Goalkeeper

Clement enjoyed a standout career at Harvard-Westlake High School ... A two-year letterwinner for the Cubs ... Selected as the recipient of the Coach's Award as a junior ... Earned second team all-league recognition his senior season ... Plays club soccer for Santa Monica United since 2005 ... Also played football for Harvard-Westlake, earning honorable mention all-league honors.

Jack Coleman - Norman, Okla. - FC Dallas Academy - D/M

Prior to Duke: Coleman joins the Blue Devils after a season at Indiana University ... Coleman played in one game for the Hoosiers.  

Prep: Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009 ... Coleman did not play high school soccer as a junior or senior, instead focusing on his role with the FC Dallas Development Academy ... helped lead FC Dallas to the finals of the U.S. Development Academy U-17/18 championship ... named to the U-17/18 Development Academy starting XI ... during his high school career he was a first-team All-City pick as a freshman and sophomore ... captained the U-18 FC Dallas squad in 2010 and 2011 and was a member of the Region III ODP team from 2006-08 ... member of the U-14 and U-15 U.S. Soccer Boys National Teams and a member of the U-17 and U-18 U.S. Soccer National Team pools ... selected to the U-18 National Team for the 2011 Lisbon International Tournament ... NSCAA All-American in 2010 and 2011 ... scored a hat trick in the 2009 National ODP Championship final.

Zach Mathers - Keller, Texas - Solar Chelsea Academy - Midfield

Mathers  joins Duke  after playing his club soccer for Solar Chelsea Academy ... Ranked as the No. 72 recruit in 2012 and 18th among midfielders by Top Drawer Soccer and 25th by College Soccer News ... Recently guides his club team to the 2012 U.S. Soccer Develpment Academy Finals ... Has 14 goals for Solar in 2012 ... Selected to the Texas All-State starting 11 in 2011 by ESPNHS magazine ...  named to the Disney Showcase All-Star team in 2010 and 2011 ... has started 24 of 29 games this season for Solar ... has registered 12 goals for the academy squad ... helped lead Keller High School to 2009 5-5A District title ... selected as the Offensive Newcomer of the Year for the district in 2009 ... named to the Star-Telegram Super Team in 2009 ... helped guide Solar to the 2009 North Texas state title and to the USYSA Region III title.

Luis Rendon - Richmond, Va. - FC Richmond - Forward

Rendon was a four-year letterwinner for Michael Anderson at Cosby High School ... He also played his club soccer for FC Richmond from 2002-12 ... Ranked as the No. 29 overall recruit and No. 9 forward by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 11 by College Soccer News ... The Gatorade State Player of the Year and Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2011as he led the Titans to a 14-0 record ... He finished his scholastic career with Cosby High School with 37 goals and 38 assists for 112 points, including 18 goals and 16 assists as a junior, in three full seasons ...  A two-time all-district, all-region and all-state selection ... Voted as the ­Richmond Times-Dispatch Metro Player of the Year in 2011 ... Picked as State and Regional Player of the Year as well in 2011 ... A NSCAA All-America and ESPN All-America choice his junior year ... Also voted the team's Most Valuable Player in his third season ... Missed his senior season to injury ... Selected to the United States U-18 National Team in 2010-11 and has been a part of the Olympic Development Regional squad since 2009.

Ryan Thompson - Cary, N.C. - CASL Chelsea FC Academy- Midfield

Thompson joins the Blue Devils after graduating a year early from Green Hope High School ... Thompson follows in the footsteps former Green Hope teammate Chase Keesling who came to Duke after graduating a year early ... Led Green Hope to the Class 4A state championship with 10 goals and 16 assists in 2011 ... Green Hope finished the year ranked seventh in the Powerade Fab 50 national rankings ... an all-conference and  all-region selection in 2011 ... plays his club soccer for CASL Chelsea of the U. S. Soccer Development Academy ...  invited to SuperY ODP National Camp in 2009 ... helped guide CASL to the top of its group at the 2011 U.S. Soccer Academy Playoffs ... team finished eighth overall at 2011  academy finals week ... has 17 starts in 22 games with three goals and two assists for Chelsea in 2012.
