DURHAM, N.C.-For the second consecutive season Duke University senior James Belshaw has been recognized for his work in the classroom as well as on the soccer field, earning Scholar All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Belshaw, a first team selection, is the lone representative from the Atlantic Coast Conference and one of eight repeat choices.

A 2011 Scholar All-America second team honoree, Belshaw is among four goalkeepers selected to the 28-person list. Overall, 22 different Division I programs were represented across the three teams.

Belshaw, a four-year starter in goal, has garnered numerous awards this postseason for his stellar play in goal. He became the fourth Duke goalkeeper and the first since 1985 to earn All-America honors after he as voted to the NSCAA All-America third team. In addition, the Nottingham, England native picked up his fourth straight All-South Region award after earning first team honors in 2010, second team recognition in 2011 and third team accolades as a rookie.

Anchoring the Blue Devils' defense each of the past four seasons, Belshaw amassed over 7,000 career minutes in goal, a .766 save percentage, a 1.04 goals against average and 21 career shutouts. This past season, Belshaw, a two-time All-ACC first team pick, became the first Duke goalkeeper in program history and the ninth in ACC history to earn first team honors twice in his career and only the third Duke goalie to win multiple All-ACC honors after he earned All-ACC second team recognition as a sophomore.

In addition to his stellar play in goal, Belshaw netted his first career goal in 2012, knocking home a penalty kick in a 2-0 win over Clemson. In goal for the Blue Devils, Belshaw registered a career-best eight shutouts and a career-low 0.69 goals against average in 2012. His eight shutouts are tied for eighth in Duke single season history, while his 21 clean sheets are third.

Behind the play of Belshaw, the Blue Devils' nine shutouts in 2012 are the most since 2009, while the team's 0.70 goals against average is the lowest since the 1987 squad posted a 0.63 goals against average. Belshaw finished the season ranked 11th nationally in goals against average and 15th in save percentage.

Duke finished the year 8-8-2 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play and fell to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament semifinal.
