BLACKSBURG, Va.-  The Duke women's track and field team earned its highest team finish ever by earning 82 total points and finishing third at the 2013 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Blacksburg, Va., Saturday, February 23.  The men matched their best finish, landing in fifth overall with a total of 52 points.

"We are ecstatic," commented Director of Track and Field Norm Ogilvie.  "It was the best overall finishes for both teams at the ACC indoor meet.  We had a host of great performances with eight All-ACC, three ACC champions and three school records. It has been a great wrap-up to a great indoor season and now we will just go after a couple of loose ends and try to get as many qualified for nationals as we can."

Senior Cydney Ross earned her first ACC title in the women's 800 meters crossing the line in 2:06.81 in the victory.  In her final ACC Indoor Championship meet, the St. Louis, Mo., native took the lead with just over 100 meters to go in a tightly packed race that included two falls and never looked back.  Freshman Anima Banks also earned All-ACC honors crossing the line in third place in 2:07.92.

"I felt great and was so excited," commented Ross as she reflected on the moment she crossed the line.  "I heard the Duke section going crazy when I was racing.  Coming down that last straightaway, hearing everyone yell and crossing the finish line and finally being All-ACC, I've never been all-ACC ever indoor or outdoor, and actually winning the race it was all I could ask for.  My training came through and my fitness came through; today was a great day."

Earlier in the day the women's mile gave the Blue Devils a strong start with junior Gabby Levac finishing third with a time of 4:48.94 earning All-ACC honors.  Sophomore Carolyn Baskir finished right on her heels in fourth place in 4:48.95.   Junior Rebecca Craigie also competed in the finals finishing in ninth with a time of 5:10.58.

In the men's mile, Dominick Robinson picked up valuable points for the men's team by finishing in seventh place with a time of 4:10.58.  The time was just a second slower than the personal record he clocked Friday in the preliminary rounds.

Sophomore Elizabeth Kerpon finished fifth in the women's 400m with a finishing time of 54.90.  The Coppell, Texas native was tripped with just under 200m to go but was able to maintain her balance and finish strong in her heat.

In the 3,000m, senior James Kostelnik finished fifth in the men's race with a time of 8:12.25 while Esther Vermeer led the women's contingent, finishing ninth in 9:46.10.

Junior Justin Amezquita broke his own school record in the men's pole vault clearing 17-5.0 (5.41) and finished fourth overall.  Sophomore Ian Rock also set a huge personal record, clearing 16-9.25 (5-11) to finish sixth overall.

In the throws events, junior Michelle Anumba earned All-ACC honors finishing in second place with her best mark measuring 53-0.75 (16.17).  Junior Erica Brand also competed in the event finishing eighth with a top throw of 43-7.75 (13.30).
